Referrals

To accommodate our expanding service we have developed a centralised referrals process to ensure potential service users are directed to the most appropriate team in Chrysalis. To make this process as easy as possible we kindly request that you provide us with as much information as possible at this stage.

Once the referral has been received a member of the team will contact the service user directly to arrange the next step in the process. Usually this will be arranging an assessment, however if the service user is not suited to our service we will ensure an appropriate service is identified and a referral made with the consent of the individual.

If you're interested in our service, please download the form below and send it to us via email.

Or call a member of our team at:

Assessments are carried out within 1-2 weeks for all clients contacting the service.

To qualify for Chrysalis services, potential clients must meet the following requirements:

Must be over the age of 18.

Must meet our catchment area criteria; must have a link or connection with the Dublin North Inner City area – Dublin 1 & Dublin 7.

Must be experiencing or have experienced substance misuse, either directly or indirectly.

Individual Work

In a focused and highly individualised approach, Chrysalis Community Drug Project is redefining recovery through one-on-one strategies that prioritise structure, accountability, and long-term change. Recognising that no two recovery journeys are the same, we provide dedicated, tailored support designed to address the unique challenges each person faces.

Assessments

After an initial referral to the service, Chrysalis will offer an initial and comprehensive assessment; this be followed at a later stage by a comprehensive assessment.

The aim of the assessment tools are to determine the seriousness and urgency of a service user’s issues and to identify the most suitable supports for that person.

After the assessment the service user will be allocated to the appropriate keyworker/case manager or counsellor – or redirected to a more suitable service.

Keyworking

Keyworking is a process addressing defined practical issues as identified by the service user.

The keyworker provides guidance and support, develops a care plan and assist the service user in accessing the correct resources to achieve his/her objectives.

Keyworking tend to be short-term addressing 1 or 2 presenting issues.

Case Management

Case Management is offered to any service user with complex and multi-faceted needs.

Case Management is medium to long-term; it is the process of coordinating the care of a Service User through a shared care plan and addressing potential blocks and barriers in a collaborative approach with other practitioners.

After identifying the needs, a unique care plan will be develop setting up realistic and achievable goals in areas such as addiction, physical and mental health, homelessness, employment and training etc.

Community Detox

Community Detox supports service users to reduce or cease their use of benzodiazepines or methadone within their community.

It is very helpful as an alternative for people who can not or will not go into a residential detoxification programme.

A keyworker/case manager and a GP will work together to support the service user for the duration of their community detox.

Family Support Services

Are you affected by someone else’s drug/alcohol use?

Chrysalis engages with families and family members affected by substance use.

Our aim is to bring families out of isolation, improve family relations, reduce the levels of anxiety and stress, and address the trauma experienced as a result of the loved one’s drug/alcohol use.

We believe that when a family is impacted by substance use, the whole family can benefit from support. We can assist the family in learning about addiction to make more informed decisions and respond more effectively to addiction and early recovery. We will help the
family to identify the appropriate coping skills and develop a robust plan to support change.

Services provided by our family support service include:

  • Advice and Information

  • 1-to-1 support

  • 1-to-1 counselling

  • 1-to-1 crisis intervention

  • Link to the DRIVE (Drug Related Intimidation and Violence Engagement) Project

  • Signposting/Referrals to other agencies

The services are offered in person or remotely, and are free of charge.

Groupwork

Chrysalis understands that addiction thrives in isolation, but recovery flourishes in community. Group work encourages open dialogue and mutual support, helping participants realise they are not alone in their struggles. By fostering trust and accountability, these sessions cultivate the kind of peer support network that is essential for long-term recovery and resilience.

Recovery Group

What is a Recovery Group?

Our recovery groups are person-centered and peer-led, where drug-free service users gather weekly to foster community and check in with one another. These groups discuss the place in recovery each member finds themselves, while the others provide insight into their situation from a kind and respectful perspective.

Recovery Group Aims:

The aims of the Recovery Group are to provide an environment of connection and safety where members can feel safe to develop positive supportive relationships with people who can relate to and respect their journey through recovery.

This is not a replacement for therapy, and rather acts as a way for those recently discharged from residential treatment or are in early or sustained recovery to share their experiences with members of the group.

Additionally, this is not an education group or a fellowship group. Though members may speak about their experiences with the previous groups and facilitators may respond about them in turn, Chrysalis’ Recovery Group is a person-centered, peer-led approach and should not extol the values of a fellowship, therapeutic group, or education group.

Crack Cocaine Group

At Chrysalis we run several support groups, one being the Crack Cocaine, contingency management group. This group is aimed at individuals who have history of or are actively using crack cocaine.

We run several groups throughout the year in many different locations.

The group is a 10-week group that explores many different areas of crack cocaine addiction and providing coping strategies and education around the effects of crack cocaine on an individual.

The approach we use within the group is the resonance factor. It provides individuals with the skills to explore their relationship with crack cocaine and the impacts it is having on their lives.

The group explores several topics such as; understanding crack cocaine, the wheel of change, reflective work and practical skills.

The aim of the group is to support individuals to make positive changes in their lives by providing them with the skills and knowledge to do so.

Recovery Football

In a game-changing initiative, Chrysalis is proving that football is more than just a sport—it's a powerful tool for recovery. By offering weekly sessions, the team leverages the unique benefits of football to support individuals on their recovery journey. Recovery Football, with its inherent emphasis on teamwork and collaboration, fosters a sense of solidarity crucial for those navigating the often-isolating path of recovery.

Chrysalis recognises that the structured routine provided by football can be a stabilising force, replacing unstructured time that might otherwise lead to addictive behaviours. This structured approach not only fosters discipline but also significantly reduces the risk of relapse. The physical intensity of the game serves as an outlet for stress and teaches valuable coping mechanisms that extend beyond the field into everyday life.

Recovery Football is one of the many services provided by the Chrysalis Community Drug Project. This activity takes place every Friday from 5 PM to 6 PM at the TUD Grangegorman campus in Dublin 7. Participation in Recovery Football is open to all, and you do not need to be a member of Chrysalis to join.
